"For every young girl there is a magic moment when she becomes aware that she stands on the very edge of life and feels that anything can happen; she can fly to the moon, defy gravity, become anything."

Mary dreamed this picture, inspired, she believes, by her young model and friend Amanda (From "Enchanted Meadow"), who, approaching adolescence, seemed to be taking on that mysterious glow which often surrounds young girls around this age. "Amanda reminded me of my own daughter's when they were that age," she said, "and I remember noticing the same thing in them. They stand on the edge of adulthood, yet at the same time still susceptible to all the wonder and magic of childhood, I remember thinking it was as though they had become, well, Enchanted. It may last a little while or be over before you know it, but it is a very special time for young girls, a time, I believe, when they are most in touch with their true selves."
