"Sometimes, when I was just a little girl and couldn't sleep at night, the fairies would come and visit me. They whisked me off to the magical Kingdoms of Fairie and the Islands of the Sapphire Sea where they showed me many wonderful things. The best of all was the gift of gossamer fairy wings, and a dragonfly to give me flying lessons. Oh, what fun we had gliding through the mists of evening high above all worldly cares.
This painting has special meaning for me and the dark of the evening is quite deliberate: It tells you that when things seem darkest, if you can still hold your head up and smile, you'll always be able to fly above it all. When I look at this shining, laughing face, I can't help but smile every time. So, smile and then smile some more - the world will have to smile back!
